Gluten Free at Per Se
Per Se is Thomas Keller's New American restaurant that overlooks New York City's Central Park. The restaurant opened in 2004 and has three Michelin stars. I have been meaning to try it out ever since I heard they accommodate a gluten free diet.
This autumn, I was finally able to try out their nine course vegetable tasting menu. I let them know in advance that I have Celiac Disease and needed the nine courses to be gluten free. In addition to being gluten free, the courses were vegetarian. You can let them know about any allergies/intolerances or food preferences in advance.
On the night I dined, the courses were as followed:

- Honeynut Squash "Dumpling"
- "Tartelette" of Slow-Roasted Beets
- Hawaiian Hearts of Peach Palm "Croquette"
- Celery Root "Pastrami"
- "Bread and Butter"
- Yukon Gold Potato "Agnolotti"
- Herb Crusted Holland Eggplant
- Jasper Hill Farm "Bayley Hazen Blue"
- Assortment of Desserts
Each course had a variety of different flavors. I was not a huge fan of the eggplant, so they brought me another course that consisted of mushrooms. The gluten free pasta that they served was delicious as was the gluten free bread.
The assorted desserts included a cheese and nut plate, pomegranate ice, peanut butter mousse, ice cream, chocolates, candies such as gummy bears, and gluten free donut holes. They even gave me a small gift bag of gluten free shortbread cookies to take home.

Beyond Sushi!
Beyond Sushi is a vegan sushi place with three locations in NYC. It is my go to lunch spot for
something light, flavorful and refreshing.
Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free but make sure to tell them you need your item gluten free. The black rice they use to make their sushi is gluten free and they also have "to go" packs of gluten free soy sauce.
My favorite roll is the Spicy Mang (pictured). It contains black rice with avocado, mango, english cucumber, and spicy veggies.

Enjoy Life Does It Again!
If you've been following this blog for a while, then you probably know that Enjoy Life is one of my favorite brands. I love that it is not only gluten free but free of all major allergens and everything I've tried is delicious!Recently, Enjoy Life sent me their baking mixes to try out. My first thought was I'm not going to have time to scramble around finding ingredients to make these items. But then I noticed that with all of the mixes you just need to add water and oil. What could be easier than that?!
So far, I've tried the Muffin Mix. Now, I could have made them plain but, as always, I have Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips lying around so I made chocolate chip muffins (see photograph). They were amazing! I'm looking forward to trying out the other baking mixes which include:
- Pizza Crust Mix
- Pancake & Waffle Mix
- Brownie Mix
- All-Purpose Flour
These baking mixes contain 5 grams of protein per serving and were developed with probiotics! They are also all made with ancient grains including teff, buckwheat, millet and quinoa. And as always, they are free from the top 8 allergens, certified gluten free, vegan and kosher.

The Seasoned Vegan
Two of the gluten free dishes that I tried were the Zucchini Mac (zucchini noodles w/ cashew "cheese") and the Burger (two pumpkin seed cremini mushroom sliders with dehydrated onions, raw tomato sauce, sliced avocado, cashew "cheese"and dry herbs on homemade flaxseed bread. Both items not only looked delicious (see photos) but tasted so, as well.

Pala Pizza
One of my long time favorite restaurants is Pala Pizza. Pala Pizza is located on Manhattan's lower east side and has a ton of gluten free options and many of these items are also vegan. Their gluten free menu includes appetizers, salads, pasta, pizza and dessert. They have 3 types of gluten free pasta that you may choose from:
- Spaghetti (corn and quinoa flour)
- Fusilli (brown rice flour)
- Penne (rice, potato and soy flour)
One of my favorite dishes is the Uvetta pizza. This is topped with butternut squash, red onions, raisins, red bell pepper, daiya cheese and rosemary.
The desserts are also amazing. My favorite is the gluten free vegan carrot cake.

Dirt Candy!
Recently, I was finally able to get a reservation at Dirt Candy, a vegetarian restaurant located on Manhattan's Lower East Side. The entire menu is vegetarian with many vegan and gluten free options.I notified the waitress that I was gluten free upon being seated and they quickly brought out a plate of gluten free crackers for me to enjoy while waiting for my meal.
For dinner, I ordered several plates (they recommend ordering 4-7 dishes for a table of 2). The first dish I tried was the "Mushroom." This included portobello mousse with sauteed asian pears, cherries, and truffle toast. Next, I had the curried fries. And finally, I had the "Cauliflower" which included Cauliflower dumplings (made out of corn starch and cauliflower).
Overall, the dishes were inventive and satisfying and the presentation was amazing. For more information, please visit www.dirtcandynyc.com.

And it contains no nuts! So, it is safe for those with nut allergies. In fact, in addition to being gluten free, Enjoy Life products are free of dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, casein, potato, sesame and sulfites!
The two varieties that their Seed and Fruit Mix are available in are Beach Bash and Mountain Mambo. Both flavors are delicious but I especially love the Mountain Mambo which is sprinkled with mini chocolate chips!
