Gluten Free at Per Se

Per Se is Thomas Keller's New American restaurant that overlooks New York City's Central Park.  The restaurant opened in 2004 and has three Michelin stars.  I have been meaning to try it out ever since I heard they accommodate a gluten free diet.

This autumn, I was finally able to try out their nine course vegetable tasting menu.  I let them know in advance that I have Celiac Disease and needed the nine courses to be gluten free.  In addition to being gluten free, the courses were vegetarian.  You can let them know about any allergies/intolerances or food preferences in advance.

On the night I dined, the courses were as followed:

  1. Honeynut Squash "Dumpling"
  2. "Tartelette" of Slow-Roasted Beets
  3. Hawaiian Hearts of Peach Palm "Croquette"
  4. Celery Root "Pastrami"
  5. "Bread and Butter"
  6. Yukon Gold Potato "Agnolotti"
  7. Herb Crusted Holland Eggplant
  8. Jasper Hill Farm "Bayley Hazen Blue"
  9. Assortment of Desserts

Each course had a variety of different flavors.  I was not a huge fan of the eggplant, so they brought me another course that consisted of mushrooms.  The gluten free pasta that they served was delicious as was the gluten free bread.

The assorted desserts included a cheese and nut plate, pomegranate ice, peanut butter mousse, ice cream, chocolates, candies such as gummy bears, and gluten free donut holes.  They even gave me a small gift bag of gluten free shortbread cookies to take home.
